Sanjay Mitra, Founder

Sanjay Mitra is a distinguished advocate with over 38 years of comprehensive litigation experience before the Honourable Gauhati High Court and subordinate courts. As a senior member of the Gauhati High Court Bar Association, he represents diverse clients including government authorities (GAIL, OIL India), financial institutions (SBI, PNB), corporations, and private individuals across Assam and Northeast India.


Mr. Mitra's expertise encompasses criminal defence, civil litigation, and corporate advisory matters. He specializes in NDPS cases, bail matters, economic offences (PMLA, cheque bounce), service law disputes, taxation conflicts, and constitutional law. His strategic approach combines meticulous case preparation with deep knowledge of Assam's jurisprudential landscape.


He regularly appears before the Gauhati High Court, District Courts, and specialized tribunals (DRT, NCLT), handling cases ranging from narcotics offences and property disputes to banking litigation and arbitration. His trial experience includes complex criminal proceedings under IPC, NDPS Act, and Prevention of Corruption Act, as well as civil suits involving contracts, land titles, and service matters.


Before establishing Mitra & Mitra's Law Chamber, Mr. Mitra trained under legal luminaries Late S.K. Sen and Shri Vijay Dewan, developing his distinctive approach that balances rigorous legal analysis with client-centric solutions. Enrolled as an Advocate in 1987, he built his practice on the foundational principles of ethical representation and integrity.
